Hi I’m Morgane and I am a textiles HND student at Edinburgh College.

I started Designs by Morgane because I wanted a way to get the artwork I was producing  onto physical products. After having completed a lampshade project in my textiles foundation I saw how beautifully my designs translated from fabric into an accessory, so I thought I need to make some more!

 

I was able to secure the funds I needed to start my journey though the #Femaleboss programme ran by Bridge2Business, a charity that supports students in colleges all over Scotland.  After pitching my idea, I was awarded £1000 to help start my business as well as a brilliant mentor.

 

As a designer, I like to use a variety of print processes, but usually I draw and paint my designs by hand, then re-work digitally to format for digital printing onto textiles. The finished fabric is then hand-crafted into a lampshade.  

 

My inspiration comes from various sources, usually I take photos of locations, products (such as cushions, fashion, lampshades) that are interesting to me. I then research artists that match the theme and colour palate I have chosen. 

 

I hope my journey inspires other women in creative industries to get their ideas and artwork into the world. It’s totally worth it. 

 

When I’m not designing, I can be seen out and about exploring the wonderful Scottish hills.
